Why focus on BIPOC communities?

  • The discrimination that BIPOC communities face, as well as experiences like internalized racism, negatively affect our mental health.
  • BIPOC communities are more likely to put off treatment due to negative past experiences with and/or anticipated negative experiences with healthcare providers.
  • EAP clinicians share some of the same racial/ethnic identities as our central demographic, which can help with building the therapy relationship; we also actively practice cultural humility-- which helps sustain the therapy relationship and is connected to more positive therapy outcomes.
